A pickup from your hotel in Siem Reap, will start the morning visiting the Psar Leu market. It is the largest market in Siem Reap and is where most of the locals do their shopping. We will walk through the maze of packed isles of thing from electronics, to gold jewelry making, seamstresses designing local wedding dresses, and eventually end up in the “Wet Market.” Here we will see pork, chicken, beef sellers selling their products. We will carry on through the fish and seafood section, capturing images of the variety of foods. The vibrant colors and interesting smells will be testing all of your senses.

After the market we will go to visit Siem Reap’s oldest Pagoda, Wat Bo. Built in the 18th Century it is very unique that inside are very detailed wall paintings describing Hindu stories from Ramayana. Although restoration is going on currently we might still get a chance to capture images of the beautiful paintings. We will practice low light photography and might even get the chance to practice portrait skills on the monks at the pagoda.

From here we will visit Preah Ang Chek – Preah Ang Chom pagodas located near the Royal Residence in central Siem Reap. These pagodas are very popular for locals to visit for traditional prayers. Vibrant colored flowers, burning incense smoke, and locals praying make for incredible images and it’s a great opportunity to improve depth of field skills. The pagoda is a very poplar location for locals to visit for “Pre-Wedding” photos. If we are lucky we will get a chance to photograph the bride and groom and practice portrait photography.

We will then take a break at the hotel as the temperature and lighting conditions at this time of the day are too harsh for photography.

Next we will head to Tonle Sap Lake. Tonle Sap Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. It has over one million people living in floating villages throughout the entire lake. We will take a car to Kampong Khleang Village about 1.5 hours from Siem Reap. We will have the opportunity to walk through the village, experiencing true Cambodian countryside living. We will capture images of locals in their daily life, fishing, smoking fish, preparing nets and so forth. The locals really love showing off for the camera and everyone wants to be the supermodel. We will see kids playing simple games like hopscotch, jump rope, marbles and any other game their imagination can drum up.

Next we will board a small boat, taking us through the stilted village and out to the lake. On the way we will have many opportunities to capture images of locals fishing, swimming, and doing their daily routine. From here we will continue out to the open water of the lake and to a floating village.

The villagers living here are mostly poor Vietnamese families that are basically forced to live in the floating villages. They do not have Vietnamese passports, so can not return to Vietnam and are not Cambodian citizens so can not own land therefore their only option is to build a house that floats.

We will stay on the boat until sunset, hopefully capturing the amazing beauty of a sunset on the Tonle Sap Lake. We will then return to your hotel.
